The Place.   Just down a country lane bordered by tended vines and sun-dappled meadows, our stone-arch winery is set near an 18th-century mill and a winding creek.   Nissley Vineyards, and it's companion Winery Estate, is located on 300 acres within  the fertile Lancaster Valley viticultural area of western Lancaster County -- an area renowned for its rich, well-drained limestone-based soils.

The Tradition.  Today, we continue our 25-year tradition of producing distinctive wines bearing the "Estate Bottled" designation.  We are dedicated to making quality wines, which have won numerous awards over the past ten years in state and international competitions.  If you would like to place on order, please see the To Order page.

The Vineyards.  On 50 acres of carefully tended vines, we grow 14 varieties of grapes.  If you visit early in June, you will catch the luscious fragrance of the grape blossoms, with the tender young grape leaves unfurling.  Through the spring and summer, the vineyard staff is busy tying the expanding vines onto their arbors and removing unneeded clusters.  With Mother Nature's cooperation, the first plump juicy grapes are ready for harvest by mid-August.  The juice that ultimately becomes Nissley estate-bottled wine is pressed from grapes brought into the winery fresh from the vineyards.

The Wines.  To satisfy the wide variety of taste preferences in our region, we produce over 25 different Nissley wines.  They range from dry to sweet and are made from Vinifera, French-hybrid and Labrusca (Native American) grapes, as well as cherries, apples and raspberries.   For a list of wines that are currently available and their prices, please go to the Wine Prices page.  For descriptions of the wines, including food matches and awards, please go to the Wine Selection page.  For information about such topics as Aging and Storage of Nissley Wines, go to the Wine Tips page.

Winery Tours are fun and educational.  The operating winery was built by J. Richard Nissley to reflect the estate's 18th-century heritage.  It is airy and bright while retaining a rustic character.  The stainless steel tanks, filters and bottling line are complemented by a large stone fireplace.   No matter when you visit, wine sampling follows each tour, with home-made grape juice for visitors under age 21, who must be accompanied by their parents on tour.
Self-Guided Wine Sampling Tours are designed for individuals and small groups (8 or fewer people) during regular hours year round.  Conduct your own tour, at your own pace, with the help of a color guide booklet.  There is no charge for the self-guided tour, which is followed by a complimentary wine tasting.  Sorry: we cannot accommodate more than 8 people for self-guided tours or tastings.  For the Winery hours, please go to the Shops & Hours  page.

Guided Wine Sampling Tours, with a Nissley staff guide, are designed for groups of 9 or more persons, by reservation only.   The tour fee is $5.00 per person, and the times are limited to Friday mornings, starting at 10 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.  For more information, please contact the Winery office during weekday hours (see Shops & Hours).

Receptions and Parties.   We receive many requests to hold weddings, receptions, reunions, rallies, and parties.  Unfortunately, due to staffing and production limitations, we do not rent our facilities.  For the same reasons, we regret that we cannot conduct private off-premise parties.  However, if you are looking for unusual venues for your special event, please follow this link to Private Party Venues.

Music in the Vineyards is yet another reason to visit the Nissley Winery.  This series of Saturday evening lawn concerts features the best of regional big bands as well as traditional swing, light-rock and oldies groups.  For a romantic evening under the stars, bring a picnic supper to enjoy with a bottle of chilled Nissley wine.  Sway to the music on the dance patios or just sit back and relax.   Concert dates will run from June 28 through Labor Day weekend .   Please see Lawn Concerts.

Other Recreational Opportunities include picnicking on the spacious lawn, on the tree-shaded patios or along the banks of the nearby creek, as well as biking on country roadways.

The Wine Shop at the Winery offers a choice of wines to be taken home and chilled wines to be enjoyed with a carry-in picnic on the grounds.  The full selection of Nissley wines is also available at our off-premise shops located in the Lancaster and Harrisburg areas.   Each Wine Shop also carries an assortment of accessory items such as corkscrews (which are not listed on this website).  You will find our current shops at Shops & Hours.   [Our wines are also available at many PLCB Stores.]

Personalized Labels turn bottles of Nissley wine into unique gifts.  Labels must be ordered in advance of your visit.  For details, please see Personalized Wine.

Gift Packs are described on the Gift Packs page.  They are available year round, but they are most in demand for the December holidays .  In early November, we send a full color brochure to our mailing list which has suggestions for Holiday gifts.  If you would like to be on our mailing list, please tell the shop clerk at any Nissley Wine Shop or use one of the contact numbers above.
